Words are spells

As an experiment, I went a week without using self-deprecating language. My brain feels like it did hot yoga, drank three green juices, then got a massage. Pampered as hell. The experiment was easy once I set my intention to avoid speaking ill of myself. When I felt my brain looking for negative words to describe my work/fitness level/artistic ability/bank account/hair, I stopped and didn’t give them airtime. I reconfigured to a positive or neutral comment.

This wasn’t an exercise to erase all internal self doubt. That’s a lifelong process. Instead, this was a test to see if I could avoid putting out negative Katherine commentary.

A spiritually in-tune man I had a conversation with a few months back said to me, “words are spells.” What spells do we cast around us when we speak ill of ourselves? It’s as if we bring negativity to life with words, further reinforcing our self-deprecating statements.

Let’s cast some feel-good spells this week. What do you say?
